Liner notes from the Cannonball Bossa Nova Australian issue ( Riverside Rm455)
During1963, Cannonball Adderley has been very active in Europe. His records have outsold those of any other Jazz Star on the formidable Riverside roster and he has
toured most of the European countries, starring with his group at the San Remo Jazz Festival last March
.As these notes are being written, an extensive concert tour is being programmed for October that will take
Cannonball and his quintet through Europe once again - proof indeed that his fame and popularity have spread far from the eastern seaboard of the States.
To what degree this popularity has manifested itself is very pleasingly evident by a glance at the cover of this album. Cannonball's shapely admirer is none other than Holland's nationally elected "Miss Cannonball"-19-year- old Miss Ingeborg Bettink, jazz "aficionado" and
photographers' model.
Selected from a chorus of jazz-loving beauties, Ingeborg is the "focal" point of a European-wide campaign by Riverside records entitled "Cannonball Is on the Move".
Although not obviously relevant to the bossa nova content of this album, the cover photo (having been very kindly sent to us, all the way from Holland) is a delightful visual
tribute to the esteem in which Cannonball and his music is held-we also feel that "Miss Cannonball's" photo is worthy of reproduction wherever possible. You've no doubt noticed she appears on the back of this cover, too.
